13/08/2014 Last week
the Port Arthur Historic Site hosted a course in Best Practice in
Managing Heritage Places. Offered in partnership with the Australian
National University, the course is aimed at providing postgraduate
students and professionals already working in the heritage sector with
very hands-on and practical experience of managing a heritage site.
As well as examining heritage values issues, this is, we are told,
one of very few such courses which offers participants insights into
managing tourism, marketing and the more commercial aspects of heritage
management.
A small delegation of senior Chinese heritage professionals,
including Mr Jun Zheng, head of the Chinese chapter of the International
Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), was among the participants,
further strengthening the heritage conservation and tourism links
between Port Arthur and China.
