During the July school holidays you can escape the cold in the
Education Centre from the 2nd to the 15th of July. Play traditional
games, relax with a book or activity sheet, or join in one of our
hands-on activities.
Peg Dolls
A child in the 1800s had to entertain themselves with the materials that
were available. Learn about costume and toys for children in the 1800s
and create a peg doll to take home.
Fantascopes
Before television and computers, the fantascope was invented.See how
people entertained themselves at home in the 1800s and create a moving
image with your very own fantascope.
Convict Love Tokens
Before they were transported across the seas, many convicts made a token
for their loved ones to remember them by. Find out more about these
personal mementos and make your own copper or scratch art token to take
home.
As a special, new activity we will also be making commemorative key
rings to celebrate 100 years since Port Arthur was recognised as an
important historic area by the Scenery Preservation Board. Come in to
find out more about the conservation of Port Arthur and the history of
national parks and reserves in Tasmania.
Activities are available from 11am-2pm daily. Check the timetable in
the Visitor Centre or at the Accountant’s House to find out what’s on.
