Afternoon Theatrical Performances

Rob Rolfe and Alan Andrews in 'The Commandant'

There will be four performances held around the Penitentiary each day from Sunday – Thursday; December 27 – April 18. In each performance you will meet historical characters from Port Arthur and hear more about their lives at the settlement.

Family Activities

Young visitors make peg dolls

Between 11;30-2:30pm each day, you can drop in to the Education Centre (The Accountant’s House) to engage in interactive displays, play nineteenth century games, or take part in one of our hands-on activities such as making temporary convict tattoos, dressing a peg doll, designing a convict love token or making a fantascope.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered: Communication at Port Arthur

Learn how to use a traditional wax seal

Join us to discover some of the ways that the people of Port Arthur kept in touch with the outside world, from the first convict settlement through to the early days of tourism in the twentieth century. Through hands-on activities children will discover different types of communication such as the Port Arthur semaphore system, and the art of letter writing and wax sealing. They will also have the chance to make a Port Arthur postcard and post it at the site of the Carnarvon Post Office.
