The Far From Home family tour will be on offer at Port Arthur over the Easter school holidays.
On this special tour, find out why Britain shipped their criminals
halfway across the world, and what it would have been like to experience
such a voyage. You will hear stories about the young boys’ that served
time at the Point Puer Boys’ Prison and follow the daily routine of a
convict who had to stay in the Penitentiary. If you were a convict –
would you behave yourself so you can learn a trade and earn your
freedom?; or would you misbehave and spend your days doing backbreaking
work with your nights locked alone in a cell…
The Far from Home tour runs for
approximately 40 minutes, children can feel the weight of the leg irons
worn by the convicts and see the type of uniforms they were made to wear
depending on their class and character. This tour will be offered two
times daily from Wednesday 20 April – Sunday 1 May 2022, at 11:30am
& 1:30pm for no extra cost to family groups.
