27 Jun - 24 Jul
The Far from Home family tour is available to all families with site entry tickets to Port Arthur over the winter school holidays.
On this tour, children and their families are invited to discover why
Britain shipped their criminals halfway across the world and what it
would have been like to experience such a voyage. Hear stories about the
boys who served time at the Point Puer Boys’ Prison and follow the
daily routine of a convict who had to stay in the Penitentiary. Children
will have the chance to feel the weight of the leg irons worn by the
convicts and see the types of uniforms they were made to wear depending
on their class and character.
What would you do if you were a convict? Behave, learn a trade and
earn your freedom, or misbehave and spend your days doing backbreaking
work, your nights locked alone in a cell …
The Far from Home tour runs for approximately 40 minutes.
Tours depart daily at 11:30am & 2:30pm
Monday 27 June – Sunday 24 July 2022
