The Port Arthur Historic Site is thrilled to have been awarded gold in both the Heritage and Cultural Tourism and the Major Tourist Attraction categories at the prestigious Qantas Australian Tourism Awards held in Adelaide on 10th April. The Australian Tourism Awards are the tourism industry’s premier awards program and most anticipated event, celebrating and recognising excellence in tourism.
/Tasmania shone on the night winning an unprecedented ten of twenty nine categories awarded. Coupled with accolades including the world’s best whisky, the country’s best golf links course and award winning food and wine, as well as Lonely Planet’s fourth best region in the world to visit in 2015, the awards really were the feather in the state’s tourism cap.
Port Arthur Historic Site has experienced success at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards on numerous occasions but this was the first time to be declared nationally as the Major Tourism Attraction - ahead of such icons as Taronga Zoo and Dreamworld. It was also the first time to be declared winner in the Heritage and Cultural Tourist Attraction category.
